The 2024 legislative year kicked off January 3, and numerous health care bills – both good and bad – are already on the move. Here's just a sample of what's happening this year:

  • CMA's attempt to reform the troubled prior authorization process has been revived with SB 516, authored again by Senator Nancy Skinner.
  • Governor Gavin Newsom's proposed budget safeguards the critical Managed Care Organization (MCO) Tax that ensures meaningful access to quality health care for all Californians. This budget must now work its way through the legislative process.
  • CMA's sponsored bill on physician credentialing carries over as a two-year bill from last year and will make its way through the legislature this year.

Webinar Training

All Legislative Advocacy Day registrants are invited to attend our special March 26 webinar, where will discuss what bills will be the focus of our April 10 efforts. You'll also get a special crash course on how to talk to your legislators and how to use your unique experiences and talents to advocate on behalf of your patients. (Separate registration is required for the webinar training. Click here to register now.)
